We’re building a new kind of digital media organization by and for girls around the world.

Storytelling workshops with professional mentors to give girls the tools to tell stories. A global, digital community. A platform for girls’ voices and stories. Girlhood* is an investment in the next generation of creators, leaders, writers, and thinkers. This is the world, as seen through girls’ eyes.

What that means:

  • A global network of regular storytelling workshops with professional mentors

  • Not influencers, not headlines. A space for ordinary girls.

  • Curated stories from girls around the world, across mediums and platforms

  • An inclusive definition and space for girls. We use an inclusive definition of girl and woman. This is a space for cis and trans girls, genderqueer, and non-binary people.

  • A kind, curious, creative community

  • Stories beyond the bubbles our algorithms create

  • The beginning of a conversation

Who we are: Girlhood* is being incubated by award-winning journalist Masuma Ahuja, formerly of CNN and the Washington Post. Girlhood* builds on GIRLHOOD: TEENS IN THEIR OWN VOICES, her book (out February 2021) documenting the lives of 30 girls around the world.
